Pretty good question. "Hear" is how :
Thinking affects language. And Language affects Thinking.
There are different cultures and languages that describe different subtle hues of blue. They sense the differences BETTER and DIFFERENTLY than English speakers on certain bluish colors. Our basic colors we learn about AS BASIC COLORS are red, green, blue, yellow, orange, purple, black, and white.
How do deaf people think? How did you think 1 day after you were born? English? Spanish? Sign Language? Goo goo ga ga? No, it's nonverbal thinking.
Hmm, you will think that's impossible......... let's say somebody scares you : do you think "OH SH*(& I'M SCARED! I BETTER ACT FAST AND DISPLAY MY FEAR AND BECOME STARTLED!" or a single word "SH*&(*&!" would be in your mind? Maybe, but many times you don't. When you scratch your head when it itches, do you think "head, itchy, raise hand, scratch, relief, feels better" or do you think of it nonverbally??
edit : made a couple spelling errors, so I fixed some and made a pun out of one
